Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming town located on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. This West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel was a young woman within Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. But, a growing increase caused her to surpass her dance partners she had. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." When I surpassed my male counterpart and stopped dancing, I quit. Many dancers make the transition into acting. As for Brugel, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her in that direction. A teacher suggested that she audition for an annual school play. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the annual school production. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Through the years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was only seen on a few instances in the initial season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the sole Canadian participant.
